Visit by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications

A delegation from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) led by Prof. Yiu-Kwan FAN, Executive Director of HKCAAVQ visited the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) on 7 August 2008. The delegations consist of three officers, Ms. Susanna LEE, Ms. Katherine YUNG and Ms. Polly WONG.  

One of the main purposes of the visit was to discuss the developments and implementations of qualifications framework of both agencies. Further, the visit also promotes learning and sharing of good practices of quality assurance system from both perspectives and experiences.

The half day discussion was very engaging and informative as both agencies gained more insights into each other’s current systems and practices. Apart from that, the HKCAAVQ also made a courtesy call to Y.Bhg. Dato' Prof. Ir. Dr. Radin Umar Bin Radin Sohadi, Director General of Higher Education Department, Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). Following that, the delegation visited the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education, MOHE and Department of Skills Development, Ministry of Human Resources.  

For the record, effectively from 1 October 2007, the HKCAAVQ replaced the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation (HKCAA) and is responsible for quality assurance of academic and vocational qualifications. The council is also responsible in implementing the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework which was launched on 5 May 2008 as well as administrating the Qualifications Register.

Visit by The Gambia

A delegation of Higher Education Directorate from The Gambia visited the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) on 5 August 2008. The delegates are Dr Bukhari Sillah, Head of Department of Economic and Management Sciences, University of The Gambia and Dr Siadou Sireh Jallow, Permanent Secretary, Department of State for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.

The purposes of the visit were to discuss the developments of quality assurance system and the implementation of qualifications framework, as well as to share MQA’s experience in quality assurance of higher education in Malaysia.
